A RETIRED nurse from Arkansas feeds thousands of people in need using MONEY from her own back pocket.
Charlotte Tidwell, 69, of FORT SMITH, Arkansas, worked as a nurse for more than 40 years before retiring, and now uses her pension MONEY each month to feed the hungry
In 2000, she founded a social services agency called the Antioch Consolidated Association for Youth and Family, and with her own hard-earned money, provides food for 7,000 people a month and nearly half a million annually.
“I don’t worry about the MONEY,” she told NBC’s Nightly News. “I give it away.”
She started the charity with money from her pension which, along with donations and small grants, CONTINUES to fund Antioch.
SELFLESS: The 69-year-old feeds thousands of hungry people every month
Volunteers for the organisation work 12-hour days in an unheated warehouse, and Tidwell works right alongside them, six days a week.
Growing up poor herself, Tidwell was taught by her mother to help people in need.
“I have the obligation to serve them, and to serve them in a compassionate, respectful way,” the 69-year-old said.
She added: “I just believe we serve a lot of working poor people who fall between the cracks, and I don’t turn anyone away from the door.”
