Chaka Khan Tried To Shoot Second Husband
American singer Chaka Khan is opening up about the brutal beatings she suffered at the hands of her second husband. The 59 year-old “Queen Of Funk” wed Richard Holland in 1974, but the marriage ended after a bitter fight when Chaka was eight months pregnant with her second child, she revealed in her new book “Chaka! Through The Fire.”
Chaka said that Holland, the man for whom she wrote her hit song Sweet Thing, punched her above the eye,causing her to bleed – and he did it in front of her 4-year-old daughter, Milini.
“I went for the shotgun, loaded it, pulled the trigger.” the grammy award singer said. ” I missed him because as soon as he saw the gun, he quickly run to the office, slammed the door and turned off the lights.”
Chaka maintains that she was trying to protect her daughter Milini during the fight. “When I came to my senses, as blood trickled from the wound above my eye, I was not happy that Milini had witnessed something like this.” Chaka said.
“Not that it was the first fight she ever saw but it was definately the worst. I called the cops and made out like there was an intruder in the house.”
After her divorce from Holland in 1980, Chaka went out with a schoolteacher from Chicago in the mid 80’s. After they split, she moved to Europe, where she lived for years before returning to the States.
“Chaka is not dating anyone right now because men are a lot of work.” said a source close to the star. “But she is leaving the possibility open that maybe one day she will meet the right guy.”
