Royal Visit To St Lucia Sparks Controversy

The Earl and Countess of Wessex is scheduled to arrive in St Lucia today to attend the island’s independence day celebrations. The royal visit is expected to raise quite a few eyebrows as well as controversy.
Popular political commentator and radio announcer Sam Flood reckons that the Queen should be the one visiting to partake in the celebrations instead of sending her son.
The patriotic St Lucian maintains that the Queen who is St Lucia’s head of state should be replaced with a president and that the royal presence in St Lucia is futile.
“Who is going to pay for this visit?” asked Sam ” It will cost us to host HRH.We need to cut ties with the the head of state.”  Another commentator on rival Helen radio said ” St Lucia needs all the money it has in the treasury and this royal visit is pointless. That money should be spent on the poor people of the country. We should not be spending money on wealthy royals who come to see us once in a while.”

During their one-day stay, The Royal Highnesses are expected to attend the Independence Day Parade and receptions hosted by the island’s Governor-General and Prime Minister.

The Earl and Countess are expected to leave St. Lucia on February 22.

St Lucia is marking it’s 33rd anniversary of indepence from Britain.
