Haiti’s ex president Jean Claude Duvalier is planning to visit the country he left some 24 years ago, after being ousted by a people rebellion. Duvalier who has been exiled in France for most of that time said he plans to take part in relief efforts to try and restore the Caribbean isle to some semblence of normality in the aftermath of the recent earthquake.
A friend of Duvalier who spoke to AfroSaxonheat Exclusively, said the strongman wants to visit the earthquake-ravaged island very soon and could do so sometime later on this month. Speaking from a restaurant in paris, where Duvalier frequently dines,the friend who wants to remain anonymous said that the ex president is agonising about the imminent trip to Haiti.
“Jean Claude Have been thinking a lot about Haiti and how he could be personally involved with his people. He wants to help out with relief efforts and has pledge funds for that purpose” Said the Source ” He is personally touched by the tragedy like most Haitians who are in the diaspora and have been looking at ways to committing himself to the Haitian cause right now. He is truly moved and cannot stop thinking about Haiti”
Jean-Claude Duvalier fled spiralling unrest in Haiti in 1986, and settled in France, although the French authorities have never formally granted him political asylum.
He was allowed to enter the country on an eight-day visitor’s visa by then Socialist Prime Minister Laurent Fabius. The authorities have since turned a blind eye and it is rumoured that he is living at large in France.
” Jean claude is in touch with his people out there on an almost daily basis. He feels that there is a lot he can do for Haiti. He just wants to go there and help. He talks about Haiti all the time. He is watching the images coming out of there and feels that he should be there to do all he can to relieve the situation. He really feels for his Haiti” Said the source ” He cannot wait to be given the all clear so he can go”
The Haitian government have issued a warrant for Baby Doc’s arrest should he ever set foot on Haitian soil. A spokesman from Haiti’s Home affairs department said that any Haitian is free to visit and that if there are outstanding warrants for anyone then justice will take it’s couse. “We will deal with the matter when it comes to it” Said the Spokesman.
